Short movie about Foster care

This is a short video that I have watched maybe 20 times in the past 2 years. This video is called “ReMoved”and about a little girl who ends up in the foster care system. As I have written on here before, I grew up in foster care. When I first saw ReMoved, I fell in love with the reality of this video. Even though we all have a different story, watching things or even reading things that are similar really can set in deep with you.
In the U.S., it is common that a high percentage of children go into to foster care with two trash bags. The process of being removed from your house can be terrifying, and then to end up with a trash bag full of whatever clothes the social worker packed up for you is just heartbreaking.
But, the past that really resigns with me is when the girl has a flash back about a memory she has in her home with her parents, when her foster mom gives her brand new dress. There are people who do not understand why this would upset this little girl, but I sure do understand. Small things can mean everything to us. An example I have is that some of my friends or family don’t understand why I will not eat chicken on the bone. They may laugh about it or question me (which is okay now because I laugh about it too) but in reality, I don’t eat it because of a memory. My father had me cook dinner at the age of 8 years old, and I didn’t know that the chicken wasn’t cooked yet. (who at 8 years old really knew how long it cooks for?) and he was so mad he made eat 4 pieces of raw chicken. That was my punishment.
What I love about this movie is that the foster mom did not give up on her. In fact, she decided to take her younger brother in as well so that they could be together.

Feel free to watch this movie! Warning- it’s a tear jerk-er. 🙂

After seeing the first video posted by Torry, I got a pop-up inviting me to watch part 2 of this video. Like she had mentioned, it is definitely a tear-jerker. Having had to face different types of trauma and going against the court with a battle of who would have the legal right over me, these two videos brought back so many memories. Some were good, and some were bad, but at the end of the day, I’m proud that like the girl in the video she has done so much work to be able to better herself and not remain stuck. We are the makers of our own destinies, and we are the ones who ultimately choose whether or not we stay in the eye of the tornado.

    Luz,

Thank you so much for sharing the second part. Both are so amazing. Part 3 is suppose to come out this year I think.

It does bring up a lot of a good and bad memories, but you are so right about pushing through and not remaining stuck.

    Thanks for sharing!
