10 Great Songs to help empower you through depression

I am hoping to make this into a weekly post and also create a final draft of a feature that we can all use. Going forward I will be doing some research on some great songs that keeps us motivated and gets us through difficult times. I will ask random people what songs they listen to, or would recommend, say for anxiety and I will also use the internet and music publications as backup. I have some songs in mind and I know they may not always work for everyone and of course, I am not an expert on all forms of mental illness but I will do my best to gather the best information that I can.
So this week I just want to explore depression a little, maybe next week we can maybe look at anxiety:

1. Warrior – Demi Lovato

2. Human – Christina Perri

3. Elastic Heart – Sia

4. The Climb – Miley Cyrus

5. I Know You Care – Ellie Goulding

6. Who You Are – Jessie J

7. Shake It Out – Florence + The Machine

8. “Demons” by Imagine Dragons

These are all great choices! I love looking on songfacts.com to read up about the song – it pieces together information about the inspiration behind the song, the artist, collaborators, etc.
They post information about various interviews in regards to the songs too, so you can read up about other questions to the music.

I am looking forward to reading more about other mental illness you choose and music in connection.
I always enjoy reading this blog too, so I can keep up with music.

    🙂

This is such a cool way to use music as therapy. Each of these songs have a special message that I think focuses on depression, dealing and overcoming it. It’s nice to see artists’ tap into those feelings and make music that people can relate to. This is really creative and I appreciate this, really cool idea.

These songs are great! I love how music can bring out so many different emotions and can be a great way to cope with feelings. Sometimes for me, I get through those hard type of days by putting on my headphones and zoning out. Sometimes I need to put on the type of song that matches my feelings so that I can just release all my crap through tears and the words of the song.

I have personally used The Climb from this list and have placed it on repeat when I am going through a hard time. Sometimes all I need is something repeatedly blasting in my face reminding me not to give up, that everything’s going to be okay, and that I am worth it in order to make me feel better. It also helps me feel better knowing that everyone has felt some type of sadness or sorrow at some point in their life, because if not we wouldn’t have all these great songs to help uplift our moods! The feelings behind these songs lyrics must come from somewhere, and it helps to know I am not alone.
