What are your coping skills for everyday life?

I have learned that over the years my “coping skills” have changed. I need to cope for everything! If I have had a bad day, triggers, life changes, anything! Currently, I have been very into music calming me down or making me just take a few minutes to sit back and relax.

What are your coping skills to getting through every day life?

    My biggest coping skill was always writing, that’s how I got into poetry, and I can honestly say it has saved me from harming myself or making poor decisions on multiple occasions. Same goes for for walking, just going on long walks alone with no specific destination in mind. I mean it when I say that walking has saved my life. It helps me cool down and organize my thoughts.

    I have used both walking and music for wellness. I actually find I sleep better with “white noise” or reiki music. I load it on youtube and let it play as I fall asleep. It is super helpful.

    I used to cope with a lot of video games when I was younger, but it honestly became a form of escapism for me. I ended up avoiding more through tv or games, so i try to use body or mind centered wellness for my triggers.

    My coping skills involve anything from talking to the school psychologist, using a stress ball, or singing/listening to music. Music has helped me a lot.

    I’ve benefited by coloring and drawing zentangles because it has a beautiful outcome when I’m done. I also do logic puzzles because it makes me focus and stay on task instead of letting my brain wander.

    Music definitely helps as long as I don’t start listening to music that triggers me and brings me down. Like Amily said, walking with no destination in particular helps me too.

    My biggest coping skill is being outside. To me nature is soothing and very powerful and meaningful in life. I also color, listen to music, and journal to let out my thoughts and my feelings. My coping skills help me focus and be in the present.

    I find the most effective coping skills for me are any that allow me to escape reality for a while in a healthy and safe way. This is why I love to read and write so much. I can leave the stressors of my own life behind for a while and go somewhere completely different.

    I’ve found that laughing is also an amazing coping skill. If I’m laughing I’m not crying. When I’m feeling really bad I like to put on a sitcom or a stand-up comedy special. It’s hard to be too sad when you’ve been laughing for the last twenty minutes to an hour.

    Also, coloring! Adult coloring books are amazing things. I still don’t know exactly why coloring can make me feel better but it does.

    I have a trouble time sleeping at night so I listen to relaxation music I love the sound of rain and thunder it makes me fall a sleep. Taking space like taking a walk in our neighborhood is good too you bump heads with people out aint see in a long time. taking a warm bath is good too people should try when under depression.
