What is your favorite animal and why???

There are tons of animals out there, some species have even yet to be discovered. If you had to pick your absolute favorite animal, what would it be and why? I’ll go first.

Most people know that I loveeeee unicorns, but don’t really know the backstory to it (I know it’s not really a “real” animal, but what is normal anyways?). I developed a love for unicorns when I realized that I was different. Like, I knew I was different from most people my entire life, but I had never really sat down and thought about it. Unicorns for me represent the idea that things don’t always have to be what they seem, just like mythical creatures. For example, I am a woman, but I have been a tomboy by entire life, I rather dress in sweats or cargo pants and a t-shirt than spend time doing my make up and wearing dresses. Society always told me growing up that there was something wrong with me or that I must be gay, which isn’t the case in either way. So in the end, I just see the unicorn as a representation of how it can be a different thing that is trendy, just like I am here being “different” in society as well. 🙂

How about you?

    Hey Luz

I love how you symbolized the unicorn based off your life. And how you embrace yourself for being different. Who cares what society says about who we need to be, lets all just be ourselves and forget what anyone else thinks.

As for my favorite animal, I would have to say the komodo dragon has always been my favorite. I don’t really know why I just always thought they were cool looking and that they are named after the fictional animals you see in books. I wouldn’t go near one though, they have very deadly venom that can probably kill you if you get bit.

    Hey guys

My favorite animal is the Cheetah. I love it for a few simple reasons. The fur is beautifully spotted and soft. I love that a Cheetah is land’s fastest animal and in my opinion the fiercest.I also love how with all its toughness it still purrs so it’s probably as gentle as a cat! Some Cheetahs are fighters and they have strong survival instincts. I look at people who have been through trauma and they are still pushing through to survive. In my opinion, they are like Cheetahs.

My favorite animal is an Ostrich! When I was younger nobody believed me that there was an ostrich in my yard late at night. I had seen it out my window and told me family and they told me I was dreaming and to go back to bed. For years it was the on going joke in my family and people would buy me stuffed ostriches and tease me. Later on in my life when I got into foster care my foster mom asked me what my favorite animal was, and I told her and explained the story. She was the only one who didn’t laugh at me. She brought me to my neighbor who pictures of ostriches in his house. Come to find out he owned 2 ostriches and sold them to a guy who lived in my home town.. and the guy lived on Military Street, which is the same street I grew up on. He also had to get rid of them because they kept escaping his yard… so I wasn’t dreaming.. it really happened!

And now ostriches are my favorite animal 🙂

I absolutely love all the reasons why you all gave for why your favorite animal is your preferred one. They are all unique just as each one of you are, and it is amazing to see that sometimes the reason why we like something has to do with our upbringings. Thanks for sharing guys! 🙂

I absolutely love that you love cows!!! Most people would think that would be weird but I feel like that is cool and it is something unique to you so that is awesome! I also have a thing for turtles, but not so much real life ones. For example, I’ve had a couple as pets and they weren’t really my thing, but I love animated ones, figurines of turtles, etc. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey everyone!
    Great thread idea!

In terms of realistic animals, I’d have to go with deer or horses. I’ve always felt connected to their strong, solemn silence; their stable guidance. Back when I was younger I used to ride horses and owned one of my very own. She and I could read each other like open books and I used to sit in her stall for hours and just lay on her neck and talk– Deer, however skittish, are a source of mystery and natural wonder. I see them on the trail where I live now and they’re lovely creatures that I connect spiritually to. Uh- So to speak.

If we’re talking animals that don’t exist… I’ve always been fascinated by Dragons. Creatures that are either described as tyrants and hoarders to mystical beings with vast, reclusive knowledge of anything. Either depiction is fine with me and I make it a point to buy a dragon artifact wherever I go. I don’t like to be confined to following the norm of having to buy girlish trinkets solely because I look feminine. Dragons, in a way, were my means of expression. They were powerful, intelligent, and versatile.

Great response, Faljak! I love that you mentioned both real creatures and mythical ones! I love dragons, too and love the idea of the huge powerful and wise beings. Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing!!!!
