Tattoos

I’m a huge Pinterest fan and one of my boards is dedicated to body art – henna, permanent ink, facepaint, etc.
I found a wonderful post about “44 Quote Tattoos That Will Change Your Life” – some of the tattoos are song lyrics, movie quotes, and famous words by people of great wisdom.
Check it out! —> 44 Tattoos or Here: http://www.popsugar.com/smart-living/Quote-Tattoos-37802431?crlt.pid=camp.dVXHEFqrmZ29#photo-40997706

I have a monarch butterfly tattoo on my wrist that symbolizes change/transformation, but I’ve been thinking about getting a second tattoo for about 2 years now. I have a song quote by Ray Lamontagne called “Be Here Now.” which ironically is one of the 44 quotes in the article. I love this quote because it reminds me to be grounded and in the present moment.

Does anyone have a tattoo/want a tattoo and what does it symbolize for you?

I love this one! I have wanted a semi-colon for a while now. It means something that could’ve ended but it didn’t and suicide awareness. Now it’s getting the courage to just get it already!

I love tattoos, and I like when they mean something powerful, because the tattoo is always going to be there so might of well get something meaningful.

I have a tattoo on my wrist that says “How’s it going to end?” It’s from a scene in the movie The Truman Show. I got it because, one, I relate to the idea of the movie, where his entire life is a TV show and he doesn’t know it. It’s also a reminder that everything is temporary. I’ve had people react negatively to the tattoo, but I see it as a positive message to myself. Whenever a new circumstance appears in my life, it’s a gentle reminder that its not going to last forever, so whether its happy times or bad times, enjoy them and cherish them, there’s a lesson in everything and the memories will be meaningful.
I don’t know if that makes sense to other people but that’s how I see things.

    Hey Valerie,

I have a tattoo on my arm that says my favorite quote which is “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” To me, this quote means that I should never be fearful of letting myself be the best me that I can possibly be, no matter what the storm or situation may be. I chose to get this tattoo because I feel that through everything that I’ve had to endure throughout my lifetime, this quote is my motto. No matter what I may be going through, with the type of personality that I have and even with the name that I was given at birth which translates to “happy light”, I was born to be a light and be “powerful beyond measure.”

I am interested in getting a new tattoo soon, and am wondering if any of you who commented on this post has ever thought of getting a tattoo besides a quote? When I first had my heart set on getting my first tattoo, my best friend turned to me and simply said “you just don’t look like the type of person that would get a picture tattoo”. Since that moment, I have thought many times to myself, I wonder just what that kind of person looks like. With that being said, are there certain things that would go with certain words more than others, sort of with a rhythmic flow kind of thing. For example for strength one might use a symbol of an anchor to portray the intensity of struggle and endurance someone has had to face in their lifetime. Can you think of other examples?

I have a butterfly tattoo on my wrist too!!! I got it to cover self inflicted scars I had and as a way to show growth and transformation.

I also have a thistle tattoo on my stomach which is scottish for my heritage.

My third tattoo is a dove on my wrist with a clover in its mouth.

I love my tattoos. They each mean something to me. Im done getting any more but I do love them!

It’s been 4 years since I last commented on this thread (I really can’t believe it’s been that long LOL). But i’d love to give a tattoo update!

Since the “Our deepest fear” tattoo, I have also gotten my mom’s name with a rose- on my inner left arm- because she has been one of the top supports in my life and has shown me support through thick and thin. I also got my dad’s name with a baseball and a yankees logo inside of the baseball on my inside right arm- because my dad is also one of the top people who have been there for me since day one, and both him and my mother have shown me what kind of love I deserve from others. Additionally, I got a small sea turtle on the outside of my right wrist, to signify that no matter how hard things get, we must always “just keep swimming. And lastly so far I got a sunflower with the quote “still i rise” underneath it. I chose the sunflower because it is my favorite flower and the quote still I rise from the poem from maya angelou who overcame all adversities despite being but into certain labels and categories and everyone wanting her to fail.

Have any of you gotten any updates since your last post?

    Does anyone want anything new?

I don’t have any tattoos currently but I plan on starting a anime inspired sleeve in the near future!

that tattoo is awesome. i really appreciate when tattoos have deep meaning and significance. I don’t have any tattoos yet but I have plenty of ideas for some. i want to create a anime sleeve on my right arm. i decided on anime things because anime is part of the reason I’m still here. sometimes when your just so deep in your thoughts and struggling, you need a outlet and getting lost in the stories and being able to relate to some of them helped me so much. my start to this sleeve will be a picture of luffys flag from one piece i think.

I haven’t gotten a tattoo in a while, and it’s kind of weird because all of the ones I have (5) were done within a year of each other (at the most). I know that COVID has definitely played a part in the amount of time that has passed since my last one, and I know I would like to get more, but I have no set idea on what I would like to get next. I have been leaning towards a 90’s nick related tattoo, perhaps Chuckie from the rugrats or something similar to that, but I’m still not too sure. Do any of you guys have any ideas as to what you would like in a future or next tattoo for you?
