Expectations

Expectations. The direct result of my overthinking of what is going to happen. Whether they are low or high they tend to give me a lot of anxiety. In relationships with other people it is hard to not think the what ifs, especially in new relationships, or even before it turns into a relationship. I tell myself something is going to go a certain way instead of letting life happen. The truth is, so many times I thought something that would be terrible and they were the total opposite.

I have to get out of my head because it is not reality! I have to give life a chance and have a little faith, even if that is not what I’m used to. I’m going to try not to have expectations and just breathe. Whether it’s good or bad, I will be okay.

How do you deal with having expectations?

I can totally relate to this! I feel like I will never live up to my own expectations. I tend to overthink a lot too and it always ends up ruining my happiness. Lately I’ve been trying to keep in mind to have more realistic expectations for myself, and trying not to be so hard on myself if things don’t go exactly as I planned them.

Thanks Emily and Sam, this is truly relatable…

I’ve learnt to keep my expectations low when it comes to relationships with other people, especially because life is unpredictable.

When it comes to the goals that I set out to achieve on my own and as Amily said, I try not to be too hard on myself.

Sometimes we get it right, and sometimes we don’t but we’ll be OK!

    “Expectations are just premeditated resentments.”

I have that problem too it seems that when I like someone they don’t like me and, when somebody like me I don’t like them we will never go right it is always going to be like that because of Adam and Eve and the apple on the tree.

Letting life happen is hard and having faith that everything will work out the way it is supposed to. Because the way things work out, may not be the way you want it to be. Jamie, for me, in the times I wasn’t in a relationship it allowed me to grow in a way I never thought possible. Having expectations on the way things should be can be a sticky place to be, so although it is easier said then done, try to be present in the moment, breathe, and just live!

This is an interesting topic for me. I personally have “flip flopped” on expectations throughout my life. When I was a teenager, I had very low expectations after feeling disappointed numerous times. Now, I try to maintain positive expectations and visions for what I want to happen, yet also detach from the outcome. In others words, I expect the best, but am not tied to it.

I am learning to expect only what I can do for myself. Anything else will make you unhappy. Happiness is the best wealth!
