As tears are sitting heavily in my eyes, I read this article yesterday and asked the author, someone that I know personally if I could share this. This article gives insight about our mental health system that so many people rely on. It failed, and continues to fail. People like Judy who have gone through an experience and share it is what ultimately can change the view people have on mental health. Her son said “I’m not bipolar, I’m just different.” But nobody listened. That is what it comes down to.. nobody listening.
This article and video really got to me. But by reading this, it has opened my eyes to what it really means to listen to a person.

Thank you so much for sharing this article with us. I can definitely relate to a lot of what Dan had to endure, but I am glad to be on the other side of it now. I find it very important to actually take the time to listen to a person’s wants and needs, and to understand that just because they may be experiencing things that may be out of our norm, it doesn’t mean that they automatically need to be labeled. Labels are limiting, and often times they provide more of a seclusion factor than one of validation. This is a sad story, but I am glad that Dan’s mom has been able to work to help so many others who are experiencing similar things.
