I love this word. It is actually considered a German word but it is originally from John Koenig’s imagined Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Basically, it describes the feeling of returning home after an immersive trip only to find it fading rapidly from your awareness—to the extent you have to keep reminding yourself that it happened at all, even though it felt so vivid just days ago.
Very much like the feeling you get after a great trip. It almost becomes a part of your life but it’s so short-lived, you begin to miss it miserably. Like my trip last summer to Easton Mountain. I felt like I could live there forever because of the authenticity that I experienced on the five-day vacation but very quickly that subtle sweetness of my experience is lost as I transition back into my ordinary life.
These songs help to remind me that the good times are here to last.
