Hi everyone,
I’ve been away for a long while, but I’ve been busy! I’m starting my own organization, and one of our first projects is a book project: “We Must Be DEAFENING!: Our Journeys through the Mental/Behavioral Health & Addiction System, and How We Survived.”
The target audience for our book is providers – psychiatrists, social workers, etc. We’re hoping to compile suggestions from our peers (“service recipients,” “consumers,” “recoverees,” whatever label you feel most comfortable with), based on our insights as service recipients – suggestions that could be implemented tomorrow, for no or low-cost! This isn’t just something for us to share with each other for validation, it’s specifically to start a dialogue with providers – to share our suggestions and show that we are the biggest piece they’ve been missing in their efforts to improve the system. WE understand how it works, how it came to be the way it is today, and what it will take to make it work better for all of us – including those of us who still aren’t being helped by what’s out there.
Please check out our website, RockingRecovery.org – our submission form is linked out using GoogleForms, but you don’t need to have a Gmail account to submit your story & suggestions! You can submit under whatever name you want to go with your story, it can be your real full name if you’re ready for that but it can also be a nickname or pen-name or initials, whatever you feel most comfortable with.
It’s been really great reading through folks’ submissions so far, people have great insights and suggestions – and great quotes!

Hi Vered,
It was great to finally meet you face to face and chat for a moment at the Laughter Yoga meetup in Bridgeport last Friday. I will definitely spread the word on your project, and how it will be used to make the services we receive better.
I hope to run into you again soon. Keep up the awesome work! ~ Michael
Hi Michael,
