Goal Setting

Have you ever done goal setting? i find it is a powerful way for me to get clear about what I want for myself. For example, my current goal is to exercise 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Having it written down, I try to visualize me actually exercising, and what i want to look like after I exercise for 6 months.

I often hear from other young people that they do not know what they want. i totally get the feeling. I wanted to share a cool article that can help anyone with goal setting.

setting goal for yourself I good. Just because you will know and be sure of what you want to do in life. you can set goals to get your education or, get a better job. you can have any goals you just have to reach them.

I seem to have an unusual opinion on goal setting; I hate it. I absolutely despise setting goals. I tend to find life to be overwhelming, particularly when I think about the future. Part of my recovery is practicing living in the moment. A lot of people suggest taking things one day at a time. That’s still too much for me. I take life one minute at a time. No more. Goal setting doesn’t work with this coping mechanism. It requires you think about the future.

I also tend to agree with the whole “Don’t set goals and you won’t be disappointed” mindset.

This is not at all meant to put down goal setting, however. If it works for you, go for it! I just think it’s important to remember it’s not the only way which is a very common misconception.

For me, I only tend to have plans in place for things such as day to day activities. Due to this, I feel that I only set goals that I can mark in my calendar and can meet by a certain date because it gives me a sense of control. By not being able to accomplish things by a certain time frame I have set out, I will not feel adequate enough to set another goal in the future.

Personally, I write “lists” rather than write down goals. Getting things done could count as goals for me, although I also have longterm goals I hope to accomplish as well. For example. a longterm goal of mine is to become more organized and well-kept.

Goals create themselves for me – may sound strange but I get up almost everyday with a new goal in my way (an obstacle lol). Decision making is quickly becoming a challenge for me day by day. Sorting things out like making appointments, housing and school, presents new challenges as I go along.
