What is one song you always reach to when you need motivation?
I’m kinda famous at my office cubicle corner for lip syncing Whitney Houston! I like being silly to left off steam. I absolutely think she had one of the most amazing voices. This song medley is really one of her best live performances. I think she always gave it her all despite what she was going through.
This also leads me to talk about celebrities and mental health and substance abuse. I was watching interviews with Whitney, and it always seemed to me that she never enjoyed her fame, and just wanted to sing. It really makes me sad that she did not have the support or get the help that she needed.

I love this! Haha! One song that really gets me motivated and happy is “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” by Kelly Clarkson… the title kind of explains it all 🙂 I will sit there and sing/yell every word on top of my lungs! 🙂 🙂
Michael- that is such a great song!! Anything to get you motivated!!! My favorite song is by Hilda Hinks- Our Destiny from the movie Love & Basketball. I play it in my car almost every day and turn it up!!
Ugh! I wish I was in your cubicle with you turning up to some Whitney! She’s so classic.
I have a few songs that get me motivated.. I guess it depends on what type of motivation I need and the mood that I’m in… Sometimes I like to sing it out other times I like to just jump around and dance..
If its working out, I like anything from Future, Jeezy, or Gucci but if I’m in need of a daily motivator, I’m def listening to:
Fly Before You Fall-Cynthia Envio from the Beyond The Lights movie
Como la flor-Selena
As long as you love me- Backstreetboys
I know, I’m so over the place lol
But that’s such a great point Michael, her death makes me so sad, because she lived such a short life. R.I.P to one of the greatest! A lot of celebrities eventually share their struggles and battles with substance abuse and I really respect that. It can be such a rough lifestyle. It’s different being in the spotlight and sharing something so personal and deep.
Haha Torry, that’s one thing my mom and you have in common, except she does sing/yell every word at the top of her lungs. The song that works for me at all times is Never Catch Me by Flying Lotus Ft. Kendrick Lamar. It’s energetic and quirky and I can always get on board that.
Great song choice Michael!
‘Same Love’:
Inspirational
True,
Groundbreaking,
Uplifting.
My all time favorite song… Thanks Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. whenever I’m down, I pull for this song.
Also, I’m a big fan of ‘Beautiful Pain’ by Eminem (the passion, the emotions and the anger are real)
About to give all these suggestions a listen! Music is life.
Eminem is so raw and talented. He brings something different to the music world. He’s def motivational in all aspects of the word. Shoutout to Detroit lol
Holiday season is really starting to push my lazy bone. I’ve been needing some motivation and I’ll definitely be making a playlist with all of these songs. Everything on my list is actually really slow music (r&b), only bc I’m motivated by lyrics and interested in soulful sounds lol
Thanks everyone
If I need motivation, Eminem’s “Til I Collapse” is my go to. The beat and the lyrics make for a great pump-up song, whether I need work-out music or a push to keep studying for finals. I share your love for Whitney Houston too, Michael. She has an amazing voice, and is such an inspirational woman. I too wish she had gotten more help in her life.
I was watching a few Whitney Houston interviews back in the fall on youtube. It seems she really was an introvert who was propelled into the public eye. I got the feeling she didn’t like the fame, and truly enjoyed just singing. She is very poised in the interviews, but she lets her funny, down to earth side show whenever she is with her family, which I like.
Ive been listening to the Undertale soundtrack – its a story heavy game that breaks out of the traditional rpg formula – it was a really fantastic game and story and my favorite track is one of the last, called “Hoes and Dreams”. Theyre all instrumental tracks but they have a lot of feeling behind them.
I cannot stop listening to love yourself by Justin Bieber.
I’ve been listening to “Moanin” by Charles Mingus over and over. The song has so much energy I couldn’t sit and listen to it even if I tried.
