While on Facebook I happened upon this article about Kim Kardashian and #redflag. What are your opinions on this article and what she is starting to bring into the media? Do you think stars such as the Kardashians stepping up to talk about these difficult topics will help end the stigma?

I heard about this today on the radio! I was going to post it, glad that you did. While I wouldn’t think that Kim K would be the best person to help create a documentary on how social media can help individuals with mental illness voice their opinion, I guess some of the best things have come from the unexpected. Any celebrity willing to spend their time helping to spread awareness about mental health is amazing… so I am extremely happy. Whether we like Kim or not, she has a influence on her fans and the fact that she is executive producing a documentary that has to do with something a lot of people are unfamiliar with means exposing millions of people to a world they would have never known. People will watch #Redflag whether it be to support Kim or to see if she can deliver.. either way people will be tuning in and getting a glimpse of what it is to struggle every day with mental illness. I think this is one of the first steps to help end the stigma. With more support from celebs, mental health will become its own trending topic and stigma associated with mental illness will began to disappear. I dont think it will ever go away but less people will be uncomfortable talking about it in a negative light.
“If you dont have anything nice to say then dont say it at all.”
I think that yes, people would prefer a more credible celebrity and or person talking and advocating for mental health, but still a celebrity with influence and reach is better than none at all, even if that person doesn’t have the greatest reputation.
