Your Favorite Shows on Netflix

There are many of us that have Netflix accounts of our own, or if not, somehow seem to stream using others’ accounts. With that being said, there are hundreds of things to watch on there, and sometimes it may be difficult to pick and choose what to watch on our own due to there being so many things to choose from. For those of you who do watch Netflix, I’d love to hear your top 3 choices of shows and/or movies from there, with perhaps a background on what they are about. I’ll go first.

1). Grey’s Anatomy- The medical drama series focuses on a group of doctors at a hospital in Seattle, including several who began their careers at the facility as interns. One of the doctors and the show’s namesake, Meredith Grey, is the daughter of a famous surgeon. She struggles to maintain relationships with her colleagues, particularly the hospital’s one-time chief of surgery, Richard Webber, due to a pre-existing relationship between them — Webber and Meredith’s mother had a personal relationship when Meredith was young.

2). Criminal Minds- An elite squad of FBI profilers analyzes the country’s most-twisted criminal minds, anticipating the perpetrators’ next moves before they can strike again. Each member of the “mind hunter” team brings his or her expertise to pinpoint predators’ motivations and identify emotional triggers to stop them. The core group includes an official profiler who is highly skilled at getting into the minds of criminals, a quirky genius, the former media liaison who manages to adeptly balance family life and the job, and a computer wizard.

3). How to Get Away with Murder- Annalise Keating (Oscar- and Tony-winning actress Viola Davis), a brilliant, charismatic and seductive professor of defense law, teaches a class called How to Get Away With Murder. Annalise, also a criminal defense attorney, selects a group of students — the best and the brightest — to assist with cases at her firm alongside her employees, the trustworthy and discreet Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie Winterbottom (“Gilmore Girls” alum Liza Weil), an associate attorney. Mysteries arise that test everyone’s limits and reveal dark truths.

Concussion- Movie

Listen, I def consider myself a football fan, especially since my significant other has played his entire life and a bunch of my friends play, but I have always had my reservations about it, just because of the intensity, aggression and the probability of getting hurt. It’s really dangerous and everytime any one goes out on the field, I’m praying that they make it off. It takes a huge toll on your body and what not. I’ve seen young guys in perfect shape age like old men in a matter of 3-5 years… but I guess the love of the sport and the income that comes with it makes it all worth it. Guess you just have to know when to get out and when enough is enough. Anyways, when I was watching another movie at the theater, the movie trailer for Concussion played and I was in shock. I know that I really wanted to see it .. 1. because Will Smith played the starring role 2. I literally talk about football and its effects all the time 3. so many people close to me play and I felt like I needed to know what was up.

So when it was officially set to play in theaters, I went to see it with my boyfriend and well ugh, let’s just say… it reaffirmed everything that I thought and put a lot of things into perspective. I just asked myself the entire time, “Is it all really worth it???” Dr. Omalu (Smith’s character) unmasked something so dangerous and of course, like every powerful organization afraid to lose money and support, they tried to fight him and his findings, allowing the disease to take the lives. These legendary football players experienced so many different symptoms both mentally and physically! Their brains were deteriorating from all of the collisions and hits on the field and from the lack of proper equipment back then…. and NO ONE was doing anything about it except fighting against the one person who was trying to help. These football players were experiencing extreme issues with their mental health that was not atypical to what people knew of them and everything kept getting swept under the rug until lives were lost. So many lessons learned in this movie and I really recommend that you all go see it!

This film is about sex addiction but can easily be applied to any other addiction. It is one of the best cinematic portrayals of addiction that I have EVER seen! It stars Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Pink, and Josh Gad. It shows where the disease of addiction can lead us and the stigma that many in society have towards addicts.
