Stamford Hospital provides some of the most respected, patient-centered mental health assessment and treatment in the region. Our highly regarded psychiatric inpatient unit provides rapid assessment and stabilization for acutely ill patients, and our consultation/liaison services support the rest of the hospital with mental health services as needed.

Our approach to mental health is multidisciplinary, and our care team is sensitive and compassionate to patients and their families. In addition to psychiatrists and psychiatry physician assistants, nurses, and technicians, patients may also work with social workers, a substance abuse counselor, a case manager, an activity therapist, and other support staff.

Treatment is highly individualized to the unique needs of each patient. We offer dual diagnosis behavioral health treatment services, psychological services, group and individual behavioral therapy, medical psychiatry, and pharmacological intervention. Pet therapy, music therapy, and spirituality and relaxation groups are also available.

As a Planetree hospital, our services go beyond the traditional scope of mental health services. For instance, our monthly Family Buffet Dinner for patients and families, together with staff members_ã_ participation, creates a remarkable time of socialization in a therapeutic, supportive environment.

Upon discharge, patients receive a carefully constructed discharge plan and arrangements for aftercare. We invite involvement of a patient_ã_s family or significant other (with patient permission) during this process.
