Norwalk Community College Food Pantry
The Pantry @NCC seeks to alleviate the barriers and challenges associated with food insecurity and hunger so that students can remain in school, and ultimately, earn their degrees.
Why does NCC have a food pantry? Food insecurity has increasingly become an issue on college and university campuses across the country with some data showing 39-59% of college students experiencing food insecurity. Research has shown that the rates of food-insecure community college students exceed the national average which has a negative effect on student GPA, levels of energy, and concentration. Obtaining an adequate food supply is often a major component of the financial stress that students bear. And while there are community resources available, it may be difficult to access them due to transportation or scheduling. In addition, sometimes community food resources are not able to accommodate students based on their eligibility guidelines.
