What is Make the Road?

Make the Road is an organization led by community members just like you! We work together to make change in Bridgeport and across the state. This includes making school easier to access for bilingual students and parents, making safer walking routes to school for students, making our city safe for immigrant families, and getting quality healthcare for all. We would love for you to join us in doing this work!

How can I get involved?

The Make the Road summer youth program will allow you to connect with other young people around the city to develop your leadership skills and learn the basics of how we make changes happen. We will learn about issues like the school to prison pipeline, environmental justice, and access to higher education and complete a project that will help get more young people involved in this work.

The program is open to all students who attend high school at Bassick, Central, or Harding. The Program will run for 6 weeks starting on July 13th and going until August 19th. It will run 2 days a week from 2pm-4pm on Zoom with the last day being in-person for presentations of learning and a celebration! Youth that complete the program will receive a $300 stipend and money for food for program sessions. The program will be run in English but interpretation from English to Spanish will be available for Spanish speakers.

¡Hola! Gracias por su interés en el Programa Juvenil de Verano Make the Road. ¡Make the Road es una organización dirigida por miembros de la comunidad como tú! Trabajamos juntos para lograr cambios en Bridgeport y en todo el estado. Esto incluye hacer que la escuela sea más accesible para los estudiantes y padres bilingües, hacer rutas a pie más seguras para los estudiantes, hacer que nuestra ciudad sea segura para las familias inmigrantes y obtener atención médica de calidad para todos. ¡Nos encantaría que se uniera a nosotros para hacer este trabajo!

Nuestro programa juvenil de verano le permitirá conectarse con otros jóvenes de la ciudad para desarrollar sus habilidades de liderazgo y aprender los conceptos básicos de cómo hacemos que sucedan los cambios. Aprenderemos sobre temas como la tubería de la escuela a la prisión, la justicia ambiental y el acceso a la educación superior y completaremos un proyecto que ayudará a involucrar a más jóvenes en este trabajo.

El programa está abierto a todos los estudiantes que asisten a la escuela secundaria en Bassick, Central o Harding. El programa tendrá una duración de 6 semanas a partir del 13 de julio y hasta el 19 de agosto. Se ejecutará 2 días a la semana de 2 pm a 4 pm en Zoom y el último día será en persona para presentaciones de aprendizaje y una celebración. Los jóvenes que completen el programa recibirán un estipendio de $ 300 y dinero para alimentos para las sesiones del programa. El programa se ejecutará en inglés, pero habrá interpretación de inglés a español disponible para hispanohablantes.
