TEDTalk on Depression

I used this video to help explain my depression to my father. He was able to take a lot from it and became more understanding and supportive. I love this talk and have a lot of respect for Andrew Solomon.

What are your thoughts on this powerful video?

    This is very insightful…

One thing that stood out to me is the idea that depression is usually perceived as a western, white, middle class disease, which is really true.

In Jamaica, people don’t talk about depression as a diagnosis that may require very serious treatment – people usually generalize it all as stress so no one really understand why people isolate themselves or even commit suicide.

This video reveals a lot that could educate, especially vulnerable groups of people.

Its also true that people who seem more resilient are often in denial and people who admit the truth are the ones who get the help they really need.
