“Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values.” Ellen DeGeneres.
Sometimes when you are feeling like you are loosing hope, the best place to rest your head may be on the shoulders of the men and women who have stood with us, stands with us and will continue to stand with us.
One Month. And I have learnt enough to realize that immigration wasnt just a republican or democratic talking point. Its peoples’ reality. The well thought out messages throughout last election were meant to be taken seriously.
Now that we can only listen to ourselves, and the echo from the walls that utters compassion saying, “You will be alright,” its sad to constantly hear about who is ‘illegal’ or who needs to ‘come here the right way.’ And now that we can only listen to the people who love us, as ‘immigrants’, people like me would gather an album of quotes and paste them upon the wall in their bedroom.
“What makes someone American is not just blood or birth, but allegiance to our founding principles.” —President Obama
“Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.”
― Franklin D. Roosevelt
“We are a country where people of all backgrounds, all nations of origin, all languages, all religions, all races, can make a home. America was built by immigrants.” – Hillary Clinton
Do I have a right to voice my opinion or am I just an immigrant?
“Citizenship to me is more than a piece of paper. Citizenship is also about character. I am an American. We’re just waiting for our country to recognize it.”
Jose Antonio Vargas

So sick of people saying, “you will be alright”. Sometimes, it’s not that easy. I know I say it some times bc I’m such a tough love type of person and in saying that, i use to think it shows some sort of hopefulness but in reality, it sucks. It’s literally taking an entire situation and pushing someone’s feelings to the side. No, dont shake it off… no one wants to hear that unless the comments after it are some how empathetic. This immigration battle is really starting to get under my skin more than it has lately… for so long, it feels like America has had an issue with allowing others to come here and make something of themselves. It’s not a crime to want to come here and live the “American dream” that has been so graciously painted in other countries. Give people the opportunity.
First they uprooted people from their homes and made them come here and now they’re kicking people out, pushing them to stay where they are. Im so sick of it.
So true Rai, whatever happened to history… So many of us have a problem with people coming to ‘America’, forgetting that this land was here long before them and their forefathers. If America rightfully belongs to anyone, its the native Indians. Native Americans and African Americans actually got their hands dirty to build the foundation of this country, enough of this entitlement and thinking that you ‘deserve’. America doesn’t have a rightful owner!!!
