"Somedays you need the music, other days you just need the lyrics"

I 100 percent agree with this saying. Today I feel like I want to focus more on the lyrics than I want to listen to the music. Hope you can figure out which artist this is. I picked some of his best lyrics.

1. This song is called “Carry You Home”
“As strong as you were, tender you go.
I’m watching you breathing for the last time.
A song for your heart, but when it is quiet,
I know what it means and I’ll carry you home.”

2. “High”
“Will you be my shoulder when I’m grey and older?
Promise me tomorrow starts with you,
Getting high; running wild among all the stars above.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe you remember me”

3. “Same Mistake”
“Saw the world turning in my sheets and once again I cannot sleep.
Walk out the door and up the street; look at the stars beneath my feet.”

4. “1973”
“I would call you up every Saturday night
And we both stayed out ’til the morning light
And we sang, “Here we go again”
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing “Here we go again”

5. “Don’t Give Me Those Eyes”
“I want to believe in
In a thing call love, in a thing call love
Caught in this feeling
In this feeling, in this feeling”

6. Bartender
“We can dance but I can’t dance
Maybe we can stick to holding hands
Or should we raise a glass
And forget the past?”

7. “Heart to Heart”
“It’s OK ’cause I know
You shine even on a rainy day and
I can find your halo
Guides me to wherever you fall
If you need a hand to hold
I’ll come running, because
You and I won’t part till we die
You should know
We see eye to eye, heart to heart.”

8. “So Far Gone”
“I’ve tried hard to remember
This prison cell used to be a shelter
Now we’re just looking for the best way out
I can’t fight you anymore
You’re already one foot out the door.”

Some of these songs are from the album he released earlier this year, “The Afterlove”

I resonate with this blog so much! Some days I could care less about the words on a song I just really want to listen and to connect with the sounds. The beat of the drums or the sound from the other instruments. There are other days when the word are what I call on for certain songs. Depending on the mood that I am in is how I choose my songs.

I love this post. For me it really depends on the genre of music I’m listening to. If I’m listening to rock, metal or dance music I mostly care about the beat and instrumentals and just let the lyrics flow with the music. When I listen to hip hop/rap I mostly care about the lyrics. Don’t get me wrong there are some rap songs I listen to for its up beat content when I go to the gym, but for the most part I focus more on the lyrics with rap.

I definitely agree with your post. When I am on my way to school or work and nothing is really bothering me, I can listen to music and sing along like nothing, making no connections to anything. Nevertheless, when I am struggling, when things are hard and I need to connect to something, I use music as my number one way to f=make myself feel better. I will purposely select music that will help me connect with myself on a deeper level, that will help me process the things going on within my life in a safe way. I love that music allows me to do this, it’s definitely one of my safe tools that will always be there no matter what.
