In honor of International Women’s Day that just passed on March 8th, I want to talk to you about some amazing women that have inspired me, guided me, raised me, and saved me from the lowest points of my life.
I want to talk about my sister, first and foremost. She is four years younger than me, but has lived 1000 lifetimes. Her soul is old. She is the most colorful human being I have ever met. Her light shines on everyone she meets. She is unforgettable and irreplaceable. My sister is finding her way through this journey of life.
My mom is strong. She doesn’t take no for an answer. She has created her own path in the world, and she has led us and inspired us to create our own paths, too. She pushes when you need to be pushed. My mom’s laugh is so contagious, I am laughing now just thinking about it. She is independent, and has taught me what it means to be a strong woman.
Grandmothers are what’s good in the world. And mine is the best there is. She remembers everyone’s birthdays. She taught me how to be fair. She taught me how to make good choices, to always do the right thing. She showed me how to be proud to put a smile on someone’s face.
My sweet angel friend Rae. She saved me. She lifted my injured wings and helped me believe in me again. She inspires me every day. She is the only woman in an office full of men, and she commandsrespect and honesty. She is the most intelligent person I know. Her heart is full of gold. She taught me how important a soulmate is.
The other two members who make up this TurningPointCT team; Ally and Eliza. Two amazing and inspiring women. Women who changed my world from the moment I met them. Ally
is an inspiration to women everywhere who have yet to find their inner strength. Because she’s found hers- and she will stop at nothing until you find yours. Eliza is an amazing woman, and an even more amazing mother. She works hard every day to give Willow the best life she can, by giving herself the best life that she can.
To my second mom; I have only known you for a short time, but you have loved me unconditionally since the moment we met. You have raised five amazing children who are on their way to change the world. The love you have in your heart is pure and kind. I wish everyone knew you- they’d have a little more light in their life.
All of these women have made me who I am. I would be nothing without their strength, encouragement, and love.
To the women out there reading along: you are strong, you are brave, you are loved.

TurningPointCT.org was developed by young people in Connecticut who are in recovery from mental health and substance use issues. We know what it’s like to feel alone, stressed, worried, sad, and angry. We’ve lived through the ups and downs of self-harm, drugs and alcohol, and the struggle to find help.
