We’re back again with another podcast: Are our youth being overmedicated?
Listen to Ally, Olivia, Eliza, and Michael share their experiences and thoughts on medication for behavioral health issues. We had a lot of similar experiences, both good and bad. We all stressed the importance of talking openly to your doc and how you are your own best advocate!
We want to hear from you! Let us know what your thoughts are and share your experience with medication.
After seven years and eighteen trials on many SSRIs, antipsychotics and mood stabilizers, I have successfully tapered off of these medications. I am incredibly hesitant when thinking about what medications I ingest. This is because of the several suicide attempts that likely resulted from the types and dosages that the various psychiatrists recommended. Since waning off of these medications, I have experienced tardive dyskinesia, amnesia and kidney problems. This podcast does a good job of explaining what happens besides the reduction in symptoms Thank you.
Hey Jonathan! That’s amazing that you came off all of your medications. I experienced a similar over-medication, and it was really hard getting off all of the medications, and scary because you’re taught to believe (at lest I was) that you NEED them, and that without them you would basically dissolve. Breaking free from the disablement that came with my chronic over-medication was the most beneficial thing I’ve experienced. I’m so glad that you’re on the AU team and happy that you’re on TPCT!
