2017 is winding down, and for many people it’s the time of year when they start to think about what went well throughout the past year as well as what could have gone a little better. For me, I think this year was full of a tremendous amount of growth, and I am really happy with how things ended up turning out. I think the greatest thing that went on this year for me was being able to recognize that I was in a toxic and dangerous relationship and being able to get myself out of it. It took a long time, and it definitely caused a lot of heartache while it lasted but I am more than grateful that I am not being hurt anymore. Another thing that I am happy about this year is being the recipient of the 2017 Emerging Adult Voice Award for the work I do at Join Rise Be. It is truly the best thing I have ever earned in my life, and it stands as proof to anyone and everyone who ever said I wasn’t going to be able to do anything with my life. I believe the last of the greatest thing I have accomplished this year has been building more positive relationships. Both by getting into a new romantic relationship as well as being able to strengthen my bond with friends and family, this year has definitely served as a reinforcement in those relationships. 🙂
As for what I want to work on for next year, I would like to be able to save more money, and be better off financially to secure a future for myself and my loved ones. I would also like to continue to be focused on work and helping others in their recovery process all while helping the emerging adult network here in my town grow into something amazing, because I feel that it is definitely something that is needed. Last but not least, I want to travel and make amazing memories with my loved ones.
What went well for you this year? What do you plan to improve on for next year?
I am happy this has been an amazing year for you and that you received that award. I hope 2018 turns out well for you as well. 2017 has been a good year for me as well. I have a second job and a new place to live. I am finally financially stable after two years of struggling. Hopefully within the new year I will grow even more and I hope the same for everyone else including you Luz.
Great post, Luz! As this is coming to an end I usually do some reflecting on what I did for the year and what I have accomplished or what I didn’t.
Here is my answer to your questions- What went well for you this year? What do you plan to improve on for next year?
This year has been a great! I was able to do a lot of extra things at work- such as get trained to teach IPS and I went to Atlanta for a week for it! It was an incredible experience. I also presented at NARPA in Maine about my experience in the Foster care system and Mental health system. It was so amazing to be able to go to my home state and speak at a conference. Then this past month I was interviewed for a book that is getting published, and a project that I have wanted to start is finally lifting off and getting started! My career and dreams for my career really had a huge part of this year and why it was so great.
I also was able to spend a lot of time with my family this year- more then I have ever before. I really love spending time with family and even though I have a busy life style, I made a point to be able to visit as much as could. I was in a beautiful wedding this past summer and that really topped off the year as well.
I will be trying to improve time management and continue to work on self care and give myself time to relax.
